Why does it matter — who made your clothes?
Sent an email this morning - but wanted to post it here too with a picture from my visit to our Colombian workshop 🌸
Clothes are and have always been made by humans. Maybe one day this will change, but for now ethics in manufacturing still matters.
Production isn't necessarily ethical - there's slave labor, prison labor, and safety issues in factories. That's why I've always tried to bring awareness to how Uye Surana is made and why it matters.
For years I sewed every garment with my own two hands until I couldn't keep up with demand. So when I went on to produce garments through our workshop in Colombia, I made sure the production was fair - through the wages, safe conditions, and with people I could trust.
With so much care behind the production - I also take into consideration sustainability. Making small batches means you make less waste.
Our prints use zero water in the process, so you don't have to sacrifice clean water for fashion. Our swim also incorporates Repreve nylon - soft fabric made by recycling plastic water bottles. In order to offer swim in the most sustainable way - we're only producing what you order.
This Earth Month it's still available, but after April we won't be making any more swim. Once they're gone, they're gone for good.
If you've been thinking about it, now's the time.
